The process management glasses
With the process management glasses, we have developed a sustainable concept to define the following components of process orientation:
The elements of the process management glasses
The framework of the process management glasses “Leading a process-oriented organization” specifically addresses all the key parameters for successful strategic and operational process management. These are requirements that should be developed, introduced, and implemented centrally within the organization.
Strategic process management as the left side of the glasses involves the systematic linking of strategic tasks and methods with the operational view of processes. This integration can take place via processes, from strategic analysis to monitoring the success of strategy implementation.
One component of process management glasses at the interface between strategic and operational process management is the process-oriented balanced scorecard (BSC). The main purpose of this methodological component is to implement the selected strategy in the company in a balanced and holistic manner. Processes as management objects in particular can be used to address this link between long-term and short-term perspectives.
Operational process objectives are derived and defined from strategic process objectives (top-down). This creates a structured link between the two temporal perspectives and the two lenses.
The second interface is the feedback on achieved or unachieved operational process objectives as input from operational process management to the process-orientated BSC (operational bottom-up feedback). This allows the control cycle of strategic process management to be triggered in a targeted manner in the event of significant process-based deviations. On the one hand, this includes quantitative deviation information about the selected strategic indicators. On the other hand, substantial qualitative information is also fed into the strategic cycle as input through operational market development and monitoring, e.g. through sales reports.
Operational process management as the right-hand component of process management includes all the tasks required to align and optimize processes in a target-oriented manner.
The sustainable and integrated methodological concept of the process management framework itself can and should also be process-oriented. This means that all components are described as standardized processes. This refers to management processes, as the objective of process management addresses the management within the company.
Holistic approach for process management
The holistic approach described above enables companies to realize the desired effectiveness and efficiency benefits in a structured and successful manner through process management. The process management glasses enable the consistent control of processes top-down and bottom-up.
All the necessary methods for process-orientated company management can be developed, introduced, and implemented within this framework.
