In order to be able to execute and manage a process, the process must be clearly and comprehensibly identified and described. Where does a process start and where does it end? What is the purpose of this process? Which components belong to it? The process description provides answers to these questions. If certain description systems are used, this is also referred to as process modelling.
It is helpful to document the process description using a process profile.
This allows all important information about the process to be recognized:
- Which process is involved?
- Who is the responsible process owner?
- Why do we need this process? What defines the framework (process purpose)?
- What should the process produce (output)? And for whom?
- Where does the process start and where does it end (process boundaries)?
- What does the actual service provision look like (process steps)?
- Where do we get the required input from?
- What resources (e.g. information, material) are required?
